Cherokee County completed the 2015 season with a 7-5 record. With their 5-2 region record and a third place finish in Class 4A region six, the Warriors earned a spot in the playoffs in 2015. Cherokee County reached the second round of the playoffs before falling to Hamilton by a score of 21-14. The Warriors improved in 2015 with their first winning season since 2009. The Warriors won as many games as in any season since 2009. It marked the first time since the 2011 season that the Warriors qualified for the playoffs. Since 2010, Cherokee County has gone a combined 25-38. Their 40.0% winning percentage ranks 41st in Class 4A over the past six seasons. Over the past 25 seasons, Cherokee County has managed to compile a record of 146-132. Their 52.0% winning percentage ranks 24th in Class 4A and 170th in the AHSAA. The Warriors are led by head coach Thomas Curry who is entering his sixteenth season at the helm. He has compiled a record of 102-71 over the past fifteen seasons at Cherokee County. Under his direction the Warriors have qualified for the playoffs a total of nine times. They have won four region crowns with Coach Curry. Coach Curry led Cherokee County to a state championship in 2009. Coach Curry's overall record as a head football coach in twenty season stands at 151-85 (64.0%). His 151 wins rank 21st among active coaches in the AHSAA. Over the course of his career, Coach Curry's teams have qualified for the playoffs a total of fourteen times and won seven region championships. The Cherokee County Warriors will play in Class 4A region five during the 2016 season. Following realignment, the Warriors remain in 4A but move from region six over to region five. The Warriors should be in contention for a playoff spot in region five this season. They will be looking to gain an advantage by hosting a first round postseason game. Quarterback Tyren Dupree returns for his junior season after completing 142 of 237 passes for 2,100 yards and 18 touchdowns last season. He added another 534 yards rushing and scored 6 touchdowns. The Warriors also return receiver Quartez Henderson for his senior season after catching 50 passes for 923 yards and 8 touchdowns as a junior last year. Justin McKnight will be at a wide receiver spot after catching 51 passes for 665 yards and six scores in 2015. The Warriors open the 2016 season on a neutral field against non-region opponent Rockmart GA on Friday, August 19 at Piedmont. This will be the second meeting between Cherokee County and Rockmart GA on the football field. The Warriors have a 0-1-0 record against Rockmart GA. They last met in with Cherokee County returns 4A All-State Senior athlete Jacob Graves. He was named to the second team last season. The Warriors also return Senior defensive back Quartez Henderson.
